The Center of Oriental Literature of the RSL and the Ibn Sina Foundation together with the Hayyam Cultural Center are inviting you to the event devoted to Nowruz, the Iranian New Year. The event will feature a presentation of the book about music in the Muslim world and the opening of a Persian typographic art exhibition.

The ancient festival of Nowruz is celebrated on the day of the spring equinox in Russia and some Middle Eastern and Central Asian countries. In Iran, Nowruz marks the beginning of the New Year. The Iranian calendar dates back to the Hijra, the migration of the Prophet Muhammad and his companions from Mecca to Medina, therefore on March, 21, Iran celebrates the beginning of the year 1402.

The distinguished guests include Kazem Jalali, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Russia, and Hamid Hadavimogaddam, President of the Ibn Sina Islamic Culture Research Foundation.

Several major events will take place at the Centre for Oriental Literature within the framework of this gala night.

The opening of a new exhibition "The language of lines: Iranian book engravings from the turn of the 19th-20th centuries" dedicated to Iranian printed art will take place during this event, where Persian book engravings and popular print of the turn of 19th-20th centuries will be complemented by posters of the 20th-21st centuries. Daniil Ognev, head librarian of the Centre for Iranian Studies, will offer the guests a tour.

To mark Nowruz 2023, the Ibn Sina Foundation and the Sadra publishing house are publishing a new work on Islamic art — a collection of articles “History and Anthropology of the Music of the Muslim World'. This publication will be presented by its editor Tamila Jani-zade, PhD in Art History and Associate Professor at the Musical History Department of the Gnesins Russian Academy of Music.

The guests will also be able to enjoy Persian music performed by Iranian musicians.
