“Islamic studies in the West” by Muhsen Al-Wiri is the third book issued within the Islamica & Orientalistica series with the assistance of Islamic Culture Research Foundation, Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the “Sadra” publishing house.
This work introduces the readers to Oriental, or, more precisely, Islamic view on Western Islamic studies and Oriental studies. The analysis is based on two types of contrapositions: Western and Eastern approaches to studying Islam, as well as secular (Oriental and Islamic) studies and religious studies.
The book is meant for undergraduates studying theology and for all interested readers.
