Abstract
The monograph written by S. M. Prozorov was published under the same title in 2004. It contained different types of research related to one common subject – Islam as an ideological system. The second volume devotes three chapters out of four to other aspects of Islam concerning three main subject areas that were not mentioned in the first volume: 1. The Qur’an and Islamic exegetics; 2. Sufism as a way of interpretation and existence of Islam; 3. Academic research and Islamic education in Russia. While researching into these aspects of Islam, the author based himself upon original Arabic sources, including manuscripts. A comprehensive study of original sources allowed him not only to put the derived information into scientific use, but also to form new methodological approaches to the research of the materials therein and to studying Islam as an ideological system.
The book contains the author’s publications, completed and adapted to suit the monograph genre, i.e. articles, translations from Arabic language, study materials, speeches at international conferences, prepared and published over the last 10 years in specialized magazines, collections of articles and international conferences’ records. Compiled together and divided into chapters by subject, they provide interested readers with a full picture of Islam as an ideological system and its specific features.
