“Muslims in the new imperial history” is the name of the new book recently added to the Islamica & Orientalistica series issued by the Sadra publishing house with the support of the Islamic Culture Research Foundation.
The work was edited and compiled by V.O. Bobrovnikov, I.V. Gerasimov, S.V. Glebov, А.P. Kaplunovskiy, M.B. Mogilner, A.M. Semyonov.
The book focuses on the life of Muslims in the Russian empire. This topic has lately heightened the interest of Russian and foreign historians. A number of books and articles about them in Russian and English has been published, many of which saw the light on the pages of the international magazine devoted to imperial history and nationalism in the former Soviet Union, “Ab Imperio”.
The book “Muslims in the new imperial history” provides insight into the role of Muslims in the Russian Empire in 1721–1917, reveals specific features of Islam’s incorporation into the empire, and touches upon the issues of colonialism and Muslim resistance.
