During the session, which took place on 13 December 2018, the deputy director of the Institute of Classical East and Antiquity of the Higher School of Economics, candidate of philological sciences, expert in Iranian and Oriental studies, translator from Persian Natalia Chalisova delivered a lecture entitled “The key to the lock of joy: a discourse on Persian poetry”.
The Ibn Sina Islamic Culture Research Foundation and the Sadra publishing house participated in the event as partners. N. Chalisova, one of those who translated Hafez’s “Divan” into Russian, spoke about the challenges related to translating Persian poetry, raising the question whether the translation of the meanings of Hafez’s poems into other languages is possible at all.
She also paid attention to the poetic image of wine in the Persian literature, referring to the treatise of Omar Khayyam “Nowruz-name”. The speaker also mentioned the existing translations from Persian to Russian, adding that many of them were published by Sadra.
The first session of the Khayyam literary and cultural association was held on 24 April 2018 and was entitled “Who is Khayyam?”
