“The Bulgarian Chronicles, or Approaching [‘Ali] Gari” is a historiographical work by the Bashkir and Tatar Sufi poet, educator, mudarris Muhammad ‘Ali Chukuri. It was written in the Ural-Volga version of the Turkic language, then translated into Russian by I.R. Saitbattalov and published along with his commentary, transcription and introduction.
“The Bulgarian Chronicles…” allow the readers to see the world through the eyes of the Russian imam who lived more than a century ago and to witness the colourful diversity of the Russian Muslim community of the 19th century.
The book was prepared for publication by the Sadra publishing house with the assistance of the Bashkir State University and the support of the Ibn Sina Foundation. It was published on the basis of the Ibn Sina grant competition (project number: 2018.02.14).
“The Bulgar Chronicles…” represent another edition of the remarkable series “The Islamic and Pre-Islamic World: History and Politics”.
