A poetic translation of the first hundred ghazals from the “Divan” of Hafiz Shirazi, a great Persian poet of the 14th century, has been published with the support of the Hayyam Cultural Center and the Ibn Sina Foundation
The translation from Persian into Russian was done by V. S. Zharkova and I. V. Abramenko. It was based on the word-for-word philological translation provided by the Iranologists N. I. Prigarina, N. Yu. Chalisova and M.A. Rusanov after many years of work.
This work is distinguished by its fundamental approach: the entire body of the first hundred ghazals of the Divan has been translated without any omissions and exclusion of individual bayts. Contrary to the European love poetry, in the Sufi poetry the beloved is implied to be God, which is reflected in the V. S. Zharkova and I. V. Abramenko’s translation.
The book is accompanied by the illustrations of Reza Badr as-Sam, a well-known contemporary Iranian artist.
