The Heroes of Stalingrad

Abstract

Seyyed Mohammad Hossein Tabrizi (1906-1988), also known as Shahriyar, is one of the most prominent Iranian poets of the 20th century. His works are filled with humanism and calls to remain loyal to eternal moral values. Many of Shahriyar’s works were written in reaction to global events, such as “The Heroes of Stalingrad” poem first published in 1946, which reveals all stages of the World War II and its turning point, the defeat of Nazi troops at Stalingrad. The poem is filled with symbols that are typical for this Persian classical poet’s works and stretch back to the ancient Iranian myths.

It has been published in Russian for the first time.
