New publications in the “Islam: classics and modernity” series

Two new editions in the “Islam: Classics and Modernity” series of the Ibn Sina Foundation are out of print: “The Key to the Hidden (Miftah al-ghayb)” by Sadr al-Din Qunawi and “Ibn Sina (Avicenna)” by A. Sagadeyev.

The first book is a reedition of the book published in 2015, which was prepared by the Ibn Sina Foundation in collaboration with the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences (edited by M.T. Stepanyants).  “The Key to the Hidden” is the most significant work of the outstanding Sufi thinker of the 13th century Sadr al-Din al-Qunawi.  The work features a detailed analysis of the attributes and characteristics of the Perfect Human.  The translation from Arabic is accompanied by Yanis Eshots’ introduction and comments.

“Ibn Sina (Avicenna)” is a republication of A. V. Sagadeyev’s same-name work, which was published in 1985. The book focuses on the life and work of Ibn Sina (980-1037), one of the greatest medieval thinkers. The author analyzes the thinker’s scientific, philosophical, social and ethical ideas and examines the influence of his encyclopedic works on various Eastern and Western schools of philosophy.  The analysis contains a critical reevaluation of traditional views on Ibn Sina’s philosophy and the Eastern Peripatetic philosophy as a whole.  The publication features an introduction by N.S.Kirabayev and was prepared for publication by the Ibn Sina Foundation in cooperation with the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia.
