RAS Institute of Oriental Manuscripts and the Ibn Sina Foundation invite residents and guests of St. Petersburg to the screening of “The Dot” documentary

On December 7, at 17:30 “The Dot” documentary film by the Iranian filmmaker Emir Valinejad, winner of the ‘Viva’ and ‘Laurel’ international film festivals (2020), will be screened at the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences with the support of the Ibn Sina Foundation. The documentary focuses on the art of Arabic and Iranian calligraphy and intends to present not only the visual aspects of the Muslim world, but also the technical aspects of the work of medieval and contemporary masters. Dr Mehdi Haje-Piri, director of the Nur International Microfilming Centre, will attend the event as a special guest to deliver the opening speech. He will speak about the codicographers’ work with Muslim manuscripts and measures taken by the Centre to preserve unique manuscripts.

The event will take place at the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts in the Green Hall, Dvortsovaya embankment 18 (main entrance from the Neva).

 

The admission is free.
