“Religion and method: Statement of a phenomenologist and symbolist” by F. Nofal is out of print

A new work — “Religion and method: Statement of a phenomenologist and symbolist” by F.O. Nofal (researcher at the Department of Philosophy of Islamic World at the RAS Institute of Philosophy) — has been published by the Sadra publishing house. It represents a critical reflection on the contemporary state of knowledge about religion. It offers nine theses and two case studies that are meant to encourage a scholarly and theological debate. It also provides answers to the following methodological questions: should the religious experience of a person or tradition be protected from the overreach of researchers? What should descriptive religious studies look like? Can we talk about religion without causing the protests of its followers?

The publication was prepared within the framework of the Agreement between the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia with the assistance of the “Puroshottam” Centre for Indian Philosophy and Culture Studies.
