The third edition of the monograph “The Foundations of Islamic mysticism (genesis and evolution)” by Ilshat Nasyrov, leading researcher of the Department of Philosophy of Muslim countries, has recently been published. The new edition, which came out 11 years after the second one, contains a number of corrections and additions.
The work of I.R. Nasyrov is dedicated to the study of ontological and epistemological foundations of Sufism, one of the leading movements in classical Arab Muslim philosophy. The authors studies the reasons that resulted in the emergence of a mystical school of thought in Islam and its transformation into philosophical Sufism. Drawing from an extensive textual base, Sufism is considered as a single phenomenon in all historical forms.
The author reveals the main Sufi concepts in the light of their formation and development. The book contains subject and name indexes, as well as a list of Arabic terms and concepts.
The monograph has been prepared for publication by the Sadra publishing house with the support of the Ibn Sina Foundation and assistance of the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
