The cycle of online lectures “Hajj in Russian context: muslim pilgrimage in the past and nowadays” arranged by Ibn Sina Foundation

The cycle of online lectures “Hajj in Russian context: muslim pilgrimage in the past and nowadays” was held with the assistance of Ibn Sina Foundation. Five lectures were delivered by leading Russian specialists and a lecturer from Iran:

“A Soviet hajj to the Third World since the Era of Cold War: freedom of belief exposed or/and personal piety (V.O. Bobrovnikov, a candidate of historical sciences, a leading research scholar, the Head of the Center of Central Asia, Caucasus and Ural-Volga Region Studies of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences);

“Hajj as a spiritual path of muslims: the history, rites and traditions” (I.K. Davletshin, a theologist, a researcher of Islam, the Head of the Department of Education and Science of the Muslim Spiritual Administration of the Russian Federation, an editor at “Medina” Publishing House);

“Russian muslims’ hajj in a historical retrospective: Imperial and Early Soviet practices (XXVII – the first third of the XX century)” (Yu.N. Guseva, a professor of the Moscow City Pedagogical University);   

“A virtual hajj: a sacred journey into the digital era” (Z.R. Habibullina, a candidate of historical sciences, a senior research scholar of the Department of Religion Study of R.G. Kuzeev Institute of Ethnological Studies).

“Evidences of hajj in manuscripts” (Ahmed Hameyar).

Different aspects of Muslim pilgrimage were covered in the lectures: the history, practices, hajj at the digital era, manuscripts on hajj, etc.
