Polina Lyubimova delivered a lecture “Threads from Paradise. Carpets of Iran” in Saint Petersburg

On the 5th of September 2024 a lecture by Polina Lyubimova under the title of “Threads from Paradise. Carpets of Iran” took place in the Library of National Literatures. Polina Lyubimova, an art critic, a specialist on Islamic culture and art, spoke on traditions, history and role of carpet weaving in Iran.

Carpet weaving is one of the symbols of Iranian culture. Masters created not just carpets but artworks that combine beauty and meaning, forms and content. Traditions of carpet weaving varied from one era to another, as well as in different regions. Research scholars believe that one of the most ancient carpets in Hermitage is from Iranian origin. Carpets used to serve as diplomatic gifts and they also became a part of an ordinary life. Meanwhile, this colourful variety is a visual embodiement of rich cultures of Iranian ethnical groups.

The event was held in the framework of collaboration between Ibn Sina Foundation and the Library of National Literatures.
