On the 9th of September 2024 the lecture “Secrets of the Hidden Language. Hafez and the ‘Opening’ Gazelle” was held at the Centre of Oriental Literature of the Russian State Library.
In her lecture Irina Abramenko, an orientalist, a Persian language teacher and a translator, spoke on the poetry of Hafez.
Hafez Shirazi is one of the greatest Persian poets whose heritage is a sample of the most sublime medieval Persian poetry.
A gazelle is a poetic artwork with a special rhyme whose lyrical hero always longs to merge into one with the object of his desire, to overcome the abyss separating them, but this contraversary will never be resolved, and this is the main secret of the most powerful emotional, psychological and philosophical charge of the gazelle.
The lecture was delivered in the framework of collaboration between Ibn Sina Foundation and the Centre of Oriental Literature of the Russian State Library.
