The opening ceremony of the exhibition “The Sun of Islam” held in Makhachkala

On March 19, 2025, the opening ceremony of the exhibition “The Sun of Islam” was held at the historical park of Makhachkala in the framework of the project “Russia is my Homeland”.

The following persons delivered their speeches at the ceremony: the head of the Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnography of the Dagestan Federal Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences Ramazan Sultanovich Abulmajidov (Makhachkala), the president of Ibn Sina Foundation Hamid Hadavimoghaddam, the head of the Manuscript Microfilming Centre “Nur” (New Delhi) Mehdi Hajepiri and the scientific director of Ibn Sina Foundation Andrey Alexandrovich Lukashev.

R.S. Abdulmajidov spoke on the cultural importance of this exhibition and on the results of his Institutes’ cooperation with Ibn Sina Foundation. Hamid Hadavimoghaddam presented Foundation’s achievements. M. Hajepiri described the activities of his Manuscript Microfilming Centre. Andrey Lukashev screened the documentary about the exhibition «The Sun of Islam».

After getting acquainted with the exhibition the guests of the event watched the documentary “The Dot” dedicated to the art of Islamic calligraphy.

The concept of the exhibition “The Sun of Islam” is based on the Qur’anic surah “The Sun” (al-Shams). Initially the exhibition “The Sun of Islam” had been presented in Kazan at Qul-Sharif Mosque where it was available from October 15, 2024, up to March 31, 2025. Physical copies of unique manuscripts were provided by the Manuscript Microfilming Centre “Nur” (New Delhi).

The programme of events dedicated to Muslim written heritage that had been held from March 18 till March 2025 was organised by: Ibn Sina Foundation, the Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnography of the Dagestan Federal Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Centre of Iranian Studies of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of the Dagestan State University.
