Iranian Cinema Club opened at the Oriental Cultural Centre of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences

On April 4, 2025, Iranian Cinema Club “Nour-e Iran” (“The Light of Iran”) was opened in Moscow. The project has been organised by Ibn Sina Foundation and the Oriental Cultural Centre of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Its message is to acquaint Russian auditory with a rich heritage of Iranian cinema while watching and discussing Iranian films.

During the opening ceremony the head of the Oriental Cultural Centre Lana Mejidovna Ravandi-Fadaei thanked Ibn Sina Foundation for its help in creating thevproject. She underlined the importance of cultural dialogue between Russia and Iran. She noted that the cinema club would be intended not only for film screens but also for a deep analysis of Iranian cinema and its artistic and social aspects. Before the film screen Svetlana Alexandrovna Tarasova, an Iranian and translator, pointed to the key moments of the film, its plot and symbols.

After that the film «The Piece of Sugar» was screened, following the discussion with the participation of the Iranian expert Hossein Salari. He focused on director’s and artistic concepts of the film and its cultural aspects that may be not evident for foreign spectators.

The cinema club «Nour-e Iran» plans to hold regular events showing classical and contemporary Iranian films. It will be provided by lectures and discussions with the participation of cinema and Oriental experts.

This project opens up new opportunities for cultural exchange and deep study of Iranian cinema in Russia. It will help to strengthen ties and mutual understanding between two cultures.
