On Saturday, March 22, a master class on restoring manuscripts with the participation of the world known Iranian expert Hamid Malekian took place at the Centre of Oriental Literature of the Russian State Library. The event was held with the assistance of Ibn Sina Foundation. The Foundation actively promotes the development of scientific and cultural projects in the area of preserving Muslim heritage.
Restorers, archivists and everybody who was interested in the art of restoring ancient documents visited the event that was held at the historical building on Mokhovaya street. The participants not only got acquainted with advanced methods of restoration, but also got to know about the importance of cooperation between cultures in the area of preserving written heritage.
Hamid Malekian shared his perennial experience in working with rare manuscripts. The participants highly appreciated the practical part where nuances of working with bindings and methods of its restoration were discussed.
The organisers expressed their gratitude to Ibn Sina Foundation for its help in holding the event and expressed hope for further cooperation in the framework of new educational projects.
Hamid Malekian is an Iranian scholar, a restorer, the head of of a preservation group that works with paper documents at ICOM committee, the chief editor and executive director of the magazine “Iranian Art”.
