Lecture and workshop on Iranian calligraphy at the Higher School of Economics

A meeting with the calligrapher Hamid-Reza Kelichkhani, organized by the Higher School of Economics, the Palmira Arab Club of the School of Oriental studies of the Higher School of Economics and the Ibn Sina Islamic Culture Research Foundation, took place on 13 November 2019 at the Institute of Oriental and Classical Studies of the Higher School of Economics.

Hamid-Reza Kelichkhani delivered the lecture “The script and scribes of Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh manuscripts”. The audience had the opportunity to find out how many manuscripts of this great heroic poem came down to us, where they are kept, and what they look like.

During the workshop Hamid-Reza Kelichkhani familiarized the guests with the main calligraphy tools and demonstrated some techniques for writing letters and words in nastaliq and thuluth scripts.

At the end of the meeting the visitors were shown Emir Valinejad’s “Tochka” documentary devoted to the Iranian calligraphy.
