Abstract The research is devoted to the connections of Turkic Muslims of the Russian and Ottoman empires at the turn of 19th-20th centuries. The first part examines the conditions of Islamic pilgrimage from Russia to Hijaz, namely routes, quarantines and epidemics, as well as main issues related to staying on the territory of the Ottoman empire, relations with Turkish religious leaders, Sufi sheikhs and government officials.
