12.03.2020

The 9th edition of the unique series “Islamic and pre-Islamic world: history and politics” is now out of print. It is a translation of “The Chronicles of Najd. The rule of Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab and the establishment of the Saud dynasty in Najd and Hijaz according to the Ottoman archive documents” written by Seyed Ali Mujani.

The book examines the history of the emergence and functioning of the state of Muhammad ibn Saud in Najd in the late 18th-early 19th centuries. Drawing on a large number of materials of  the Ottoman archives under the Turkish Prime Minister, the author describes the development of the military, political and diplomatic situation on the Arabian Peninsula. He focuses on the policy of the Ottoman Empire in Najd, the activities of semi-independent Ottoman governors of Egypt, the Levant and Iraq, the actions of regional states (Iran and the sultanates of the southern Persian Gulf), as well as the strategy of England and France in the Middle East.

The book is intended for historians, political analysts, experts in the history of international relations and anyone interested in the history of Saudi Arabia and the Middle East.

The work became available to Russian-speaking readers thanks to the support of the Ibn Sina Foundation, the assistance of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the pre-press of the Sadra publishing house.
