Abstract

The book of M.M. Al-Janabi, a famous Russian researcher and professor in the People’s Friendship University of Russia, reveals the fundamental aspects of Islam: its genesis, sources of cultural identity, relations between Muslims and nations practicing other religions, and the role of Islam in the current political and social life. The author offers an analysis of the ideas of major Muslim thinkers of the past and now, demonstrating evolution of Islamic philosophy starting from the early Middle ages until present time. The book treats separately the concept of Islamic centralism in the modern world and the issue of “political Islam”.
